The works exhibited in Space YZ are part of a sequence, which was part of Advanced Drawing I, taught by Rhett Brewer. I have mixed feelings about UWS as an art school. It was not necessarily a Bauhausian wonderland. Nevertheless, it had three important qualities: it allowed lower middle class kids to get an education, there was ample space and we had the time to experiment. These qualities are increasingly rare, both in the visual arts and university sector more broadly. In considering what is required for culture to flourish, it is these factors: money, space and time.
