I made this work a long time ago when I was in love with an artist.
It was the best time, it was a great art school based on an intensive studio model. We worked in a factory unit (Peachtree Studios) next to industry and businesses, which was great when you were short on materials. I still recall Harry Barnett and Terry Hayes’ Flotsam and Jetsam project in first-year and all of the artists and lecturers.
There needs to be another art school today in Western Sydney and other parts of Australia based on the Peachtree Studios model, here and now that is feral, free, prioritises making, materiality, sitting, thinking, doing nothing, playing and space over hot-desking and dollars. Art schools will always cost money and take up real estate. But invest in our nation’s future creative thinkers and invest in art schools.
