Further Discussions in Decay, 2005

Further Discussions in Decay followed from work produced while at UWS. While I had initially examined moral and physical decay of the human body, I became fascinated with the physical decay in the cities around us. The aesthetics of grimy back lanes were a particular point of interest, as they seemed to contain hidden narratives of the city, existing unnoticed behind the shiny facades of shop fronts. Further Discussions in Decay explores the idea of hidden narratives by placing figures within the space, who may or may not be contributing to the long history of any hidden laneway. It is a work which gave way to a solo exhibition at Monstrosity Gallery, Woolmooloo in 2010, Within the Great City (decay).

UWS was the kind of art school experience that anyone one would hope for - my classmates were a dynamic and motivated group of people, and it seemed like there was always an exhibition or event to be a part of. There were also great dialogues happening between us and the lecturers, creating a wonderful community environment.
